Question #1:
How long does it take a car battery to become fully charged?
I don't use my car often. I only do 500-1000 miles a year. The car can be used every day for a week, often short journeys,(e.g. 2 miles total), and then sit for 3-4 weeks at a time without being started. It also does longer journeys of 50-60 miles less frequently. It sits in the street, so I can't put the battery on a trickle charge. I have a portable power pack to jump start it when it hasn't been used in a while.
I know these aren't good practices for keeping a car and battery in good condition, but my personal health is variable, so sometimes my poor old car gets neglected until I am going through a good period of health.
The battery was replaced with a new one in July '09.
Now to frame my question(s):
How long does it take for the battery to become fully charged from the alternator, either in minutes running stationary or in miles driven. Fully charged in the sense that it has enough power left to re-start the car within say 5-7 days?
I recall once jumping the car then going about 3/4 of a mile to the filling station. After putting fuel in and starting the car, it cranked slowly for a moment then fired up, which suggests the battery didn't have much power in it.
When I jumpstart it for use, and it hasn't been driven for a while I try to take it out on the open road and drive it up to speed for 5-6 miles out of town to give the battery a boost. Does this make any difference to simply letting it idle for 20-30 minutes to charge it up??
Question #2:
How to jump start a car?
I read these instructions. I understand step 1 through 3. But I dont understand step 4. What do they mean by "good solid SHINY, NON PAINTED metal part of the engine on the dead car?" Sorry for my english.1.Connect one end of the Positive(+) cable to the Positive(+) post of the dead battery.
2.Connect the other end of the Positive(+) cable to the Positive(+) post of the good battery.
3.Connect one end of the Negative(-) cable to the Negative(-) post of the good battery.
4.Connect the other end of the Negative(-) cable to a good solid SHINY, NON PAINTED metal part of the engine on the dead car.
Also How do you I jumpstart using a portable battery? Do I connect both the postive and negative of the portable battery to the dead cars battery?
By the way, my battery is in the trunk and not the engine.
Question #3:
How did the battery drain on my 2003 Mustang Mach 1?
I don't think I left anything on, the car was turned off correctly and I set the alarm. Came back a few days later and now the car won't turn on. Tried to get a jumpstart from one of those portable devices but my battery was too drained to let the car turn all the way on. My next option is to get a jump from another car. My question though, what could have caused the battery to drain?Question #4:
Portable power supply for camping trip?
I have seen on tv and in stores something that looks like you plug it into your home electricity to charge, then it's portable, you can take it elsewhere for jumpstart or powering something that normally plugs into electricity. Has anyone ever used one of these to power a tv and dvd player? or tv and video game system? I am not sure if these are suitable for this, so I would like someone to advise if this would be good for camping or not. Thanks!!When we camp, it's at a lodge like place that we own. We stay there for several days at a time, and at night watching a movie is a nice option for us. I wish so many people would not have thrown in negative comments about what we choose to do while camping. I only wanted advice regarding the device I mention. Thanks!

Is the Ibanez Grg mikro great for beginner to intermediate guitarists?
Here's the deal. I want a guitar ranging from about 100- $200.A cheap axe, if i may say so, a portable and a guitar that has quality humbucker pickups. I saw this Ibanez mikro and I kinda like it. BUT I have big hands. like 10 and a half inches long from pinky to thumb. I teach myself. I don not take formal lessons.
I was planning to get an Ibanez Jumpstart but a lot of my classmates have it and I want my guitar to be different and unique, or weird, like my personality.
i play metal, rock and mellow rock.
help is much appreciated
