Question #1:

craftsman tractor wont crank i think its a bad starter solenoid?

I have a similar problem. My Craftsman won't start. I can jump start it by bypassing the solenoid and connecting a portable jump starter directly to the starter.

I though for sure it was a bad solenoid so I replaced it with a new one but still the same thing.

When I turn the ignition key nothing happens. My battery is only a year old. If I try to jump start it at the battery nothing happens but if I jump start it directly at the starter it starts right up.

Could it be a bad ignition switch?

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Question #3:

Can you jump start a wheelchair battery?

I have an Invacare Storm TDX3 electric wheelchair but the batteries are dead. I don't want to pay $700+ for new ones, is there any chance to use a portable jump starter for cars to try and start them up?

Question #4:

What is the down side of using a portable jump starter to charge a 12V battery?

Some people had asked whether he may use a portable jump starter to charge a 12V battery. The answers seemed to be no. However, I decided to experiment by myself. I used the Duracell 600W jump starter. While it was still connecting to the AC power to charge for itself, I used the cable to connect its 12V output (supposed to jump start) and another retired car battery. I left them connected for 5 hours. And it worked! The voltage of that retired car battery was 11.6V before charge. It became 12.9V after 5 hours. And I was able to use it to power my fan for about 4 hours through the DC-AC inverter.
My only question is, is there any down side of charging a car battery by using a jump starter? Thanks!

Question #7:

Car Battery and Jump starter question?

I was told that my Battery may have bad cells which is causing it to not hold a charge and start my car. Before I take the 4 mile walk with battery in hand to the Auto parts store to have it tested/purchase a new one. I'd like to ask a question.

I have one of those portable jump starters, just to test to see if my car will start, can I hook the portable up to positive and negative wires in my car with the battery taken out? Please advise.

Thanks much

Question #8:

Backup batteries and solar power?

Hello all, thanks for stopping by,

I have some questions regarding a backup battery, specifically the Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack 600 Jump Starter & Emergency Power Source with Radio:

I was thinking about buying this, as well as a portable solar panel. Now for the questions;
Has anyone used this battery, and if so what are your results?
Can anyone suggest a good quality solar panel to use with this battery?
How difficult is setting up other power sources to use with these types of battery? Specifically, if i have a DC motor that i have rigged up with a bicycle as a generator, could this store the energy I produce?
Feel free to answer, or ask questions about my question if you feel I have not been clear in my inquiry.
Thank you all!

Question #9:

My portable jump starter came fully charged. Or did it?

My car is sitting in a no parking zone so I'm in a little of a hurry:

I went to an auto shop and picked up a portable battery charger and tool the bus home. I checked the status when I opened the box and it said it had a full charge. I plugged it in, and the charging light immediately switched to say "charged". This is why I'm assuming that it's a full charge and not a residual interface charge. I've had it plugged in anyway for 4 hours. And it's stayed green, so I'm assuming it's floating and I'm not getting any additional charge. Can anyone confirm my analysis or correct me if I'm wrong? I don't want to accidentally deep discharge a brand new portable starter, but I'm on a time crunch.
I'm worried whether If I use it now if I'll OVER DRAIN it NOT whether I'm over charging it. I know it has a float.
To anyone with this problem:

I decided to bite the bullet and just try it.

I connected the portable jump starter, but it didn't immediately work. While I waited for several minutes, someone came up to me and asked if I needed a jump. We connected jumper cables, but they didn't work immediately either. We let it charge for 3 minutes and Charlie (my car) successfully started. I drove it around several minutes and my battery was fine. I don't know whether the portable charger would have worked or not, but when I checked the battery again the charge glowed yellow, so I don't think that I damaged it. I'm charging it again immediately, which I recommend anyone do, as leaving a standard lead battery discharged is even worse than discharging it in the first place (unless it's labeled deep-charge which car batteries are not).

Question #10:

BMW X3 2005 have problem with my key-immobiliser, engine doesnt turn on.Car is 4 yrs old, driven only 30000KMs?

I bought this BMW X3 2005 steptronic (tiptronic) 4 years ago brand new. It's only driven 30,000KMs in total car age since the day purchased. I never had an issue with the car until now.

The key-immobiliser's lock and unlock button (on the key) is used before getting in the car and starting the vehicle...
It's also used when you shut off the engine, exit the vehicle, and lock the doors. I know it's definitely not the battery because the first thing I tried was jump-starting the car battery with another friend's car, and also with a portable jump-starter...and also all the lights are flashing on the dashboard as well as the interior lights are on (as per usual) when I turn the key in the ignition.

My vehicle when unlocking it and turning the key in the ignition...the engine does not turn on. I've tried many things such as lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock, unlock, and turning the key in the ignition but still it does not work.

The gear stick is in P (park)...and is not in R, N, or D....however I have also tried igniting in N but still no luck. I have also tried pressing the accelerator pedal 5 to 6 times but no luck also.

Is this a manufacturer's defect?! My warranty is expired, but I was advised that if its a Man-defect then possibly it can be fixed by BMW even though my warranty is over. Is that correct?
Anyone have the same problems?

Question #11:

Will a portable jump starter charge my battery?

Question #12:

My car is making a fast clicking noise when i try to turn it on.?

I was having problems with my battery dying on its own, and I replaced the battery, which worked for about two days, then it would die as soon as I cut the car off. So I thought I had a bad short circuit. So I have a portable jump start box, And i was using that, then last night when i went to go leave work, My car made this horrible clicking noise when i turned the key, but even without the jump start, i had power, so I could listen to the radio while i waited for a ride. Is this the starter, alternator, or a short circuit. I have a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Jump starting car with portable jump starter?

I know similar questions to this have been asked but......I need to jump start my car with a portable jump starter, and have never jumped a car before. I know that I just hook red to +, the - to the metal frame of the car. What are the chances that anything could go wrong? And will it just spark if it's not hooked up properly? Do I take the - on off first after the car is started?

Question #15:

Car battery question for mechanics?

I tried to jump a car with a portable battery jump starter. It is rated at 300 amps, I think. The car would make a repetitive clicking sound the engine would barely turn, then it stopped. After three or four attempts, nothing would happen. I pulled my car up, we placed what appeared to be lightweight cheap cables on each battery. The clicking sound was repetitive but much faster, however the engine would not turn at all. We then go to a repair shop and they let us use a set of heavy duty jumper cables and a boat battery. The car fires up on the first try. I believe this was a battery problem with the car in question, but I was surprised it took a boat battery to turn the engine. Could the problem be only the battery or is their something more to this?

Question #19:

I have a webcam that gets 9v 750mAh DC from a A/C transformer. Is there a battery that can replace that?

I currently am running this off a big 400A "jump starter" system that has an inverter built in, and it has been running the camera for hours now and barely any drop in the battery. I just want to make it portable (it has built in wireless and a web server.) an am thinking that maybe a 9.6V battery (type that are used by R/C toy vehicles) will work. Suggestions?

Question #20:

Any mechanics out there?

I just bought a portable jump starter unit for a Acura 3.0 CL because the battery is dead. I did everything correct and when the unit was turned on and the light was green(which means I can start my engine bc the battery is fully charged), I started the car but heard nothing but clicking noises. The dash lights came on, and it made the beeping sound when I put the key in the ignition. When I detatched the unit, NOTHING in the car worked at all. No lights, and no beeping. The car just got a alternator a year ago so I know that can't be the cause. Did I let the battery charge long enough or is it the starter? Thanks.
