Question: Dog goes upstairs but not down?
( Back )
Answer #1:
My dog did the exact thing. When a dog goes upstairs they only look up, but when a dog goes down, they think its high, like they're scared of heights or something, and they might be too afraid to go down because they think its high.Just think of it as the dog does not focus on the steps, they focus from where they are to the ground so they are kind of afraid to go down because its higher than expected.
Try to get him down with treats and make him focus on you and not at the bottom of the stairs. Call his name encouragingly and try to block his view at the bottom of the stairs. Hope i helped.
Answer #2:
My dog does this too! Shes about a 50 pound baby rottweiler pup. Everytime I go upstairs she follows me but when its time to go down she can't get her feet past the first step! What I do is put on of her paws on the step and then the other and she balances herself out. Then when shes comfortable she'll go down the stairs. When she was a real little puppy she fell off so now shes afraid.... I hope this helps you out. Good Luck:PAnswer #3:

I'm really puzzled, usually it's the other way around, the dog won't go up the stairs or they won't go up or down the stairs and usually it's the cause of arthritis but if he goes up then I dunno. O.o
Answer #4:
This happened to with my dog when we moved to an apartment..I found the best way is to take him down each step real slow and he will get use to going down,
do it a few times and he will be good to go and compfortable!
Answer #5:
it could be as simple as what the other answers tell you....but it could also be his vision going bad since you said it just randomly started and he never did it before...try the other suggestions but if his body language suggests he's still uncomfortable take him to the vet to check his vision.** Powered by Yahoo Answers
