Question: Car Battery and Jump starter question?
( Back )
Answer #1:
Yeah dude go for it. You only need the power to start the car, after that, the alternator will power everything on your car. So no, you do not need to hook up the battery in order to start the car.Answer #2:
That would work in the old days when cars had generators. Most likely your car has an alternator --- the car may start but it could indeed cause damage.Answer #3:
yes it'll work be sure to wrap the positive side in a rag or something so it doesn't touch metal and take some tools to install the new battery at the parts store.Tip some stores will install the battery for youAnswer #4:
not a good Idea the jumper is made for just that .Put your battery back in the car use the jumper and drive your car to auto zone they will check it for you and if needed they will install the new battery for freeAnswer #5:
why can't you drive with the bad battery in your car to autozone/sears. Purchase/switch it out right there in the parking lot.The autozone guys will rejump you if needed in the parking lot.
Why do you need to remove it from the car and take it by hand?
Answer #6:
Leave the battery in. Jumpstart it. drive to the store. You could let it run at the store, and change it at home. Otherwise bring some tools along and change it at the store. They might do it for you also. Whatever you do DO NOT run the car with no battery in it! It could fry the computer if you do that.Answer #7:
hay malvin jump start your car and drive to auto zonesave a 4 mile walk with battier in carry let the car carry your dead battier to the storyAnswer #8:
It depends on what is exactly wrong with the battery, and what year the car is. Some are right, 99% of the time you will be able to jump the car and drive it to the auto supplier, and then change the battery there- and yes, Auto Zone will do the change for free in most places. There are some possible problems with this: First, if the battery is "too dead" it can stall the car even with the alternator working- but it usually will not start at that point with a simple jump; second, the alternator will charge until it sees a voltage limit in a battery- so it will continue to try to charge even until the car has 25 volts running through it and kill everything that works off power, from lights to the dash to the computer (if it is a newer car); third, the alternator is "charging" even when it should not, putting a lot of wear and tear on the unit- the trip should be as quick as possible, and then turn off the engine when you get there.
Answer #9:
Yes, but just long enough to start the car.** Powered by Yahoo Answers
